Are your macros on fleek? If you’re ready to get serious about your keto diet game and crush your macros, you’ve got to be willing to put in the work to track what you eat. But why?

Taking the time to track your macros can help you hone in on finding an ideal balance, but there are other great benefits too.

  • Seeking Out Hidden Carbs
  • Accountability for Serving Sizes
  • Portion Control
  • Daily Planning

Macro Tracking Apps

Thankfully, when it comes to tracking macros, there are a slew of helpful apps to keep you on track. Here’s the scoop on some of the most popular choices.

Total Keto Diet

Unlike many diet and health apps, Total Keto Diet was created from the ground up with the low-carb community in mind. Smart, simple, and easy-to-use, the top-rated keto app for Android in 2018 is now available on iOS.  Arguably the most comprehensive option available for keto on the go, this app features a stunning number of features, including:

  • Hundreds of keto recipes, with more added every week.
  • Mobile keto calculator so you can get and stay on track.
  • Macro tracker: this keto-specific tracker allows you to stay updated throughout the day.
  • Hundreds of thousands of foods are listed in a huge database.
  • Create a shopping list from your favorite recipes within the app itself to easily access at the grocery store.
  • Beginners keto guide: easily acquaint yourself, or your friends, with all of the major aspects of the keto diet.
  • Stay up-to-date with diet, health, and fitness related news in the only app we’ve found with a fully-integrated news section.

This app focuses less on exercise and more on diet, so it’s a great starting point for anyone interested in ketogenic living.

MyFitnessPal

One of the most popular diet tracking apps, MyFitnessPal is commonly used for tracking keto macros. Using a large database of user-input nutritional information, the MyFitnessPal app and web version are a popular choice for keto dieters.

With the free version you can adjust your macros percentages to fit your calorie intake and then input foods, upload recipes, scan barcodes of foods you’re tracking, and manually enter nutritional information. Paid users of the app enjoy the ability to adjust their macro limits by grams, not percentages, and change macros on a daily basis (which comes in handy when you’re following a Cyclic Ketogenic Diet).

Those benefits notwithstanding, MyFitnessPal does have a downside. Because the community is responsible for most of the nutritional information available to users, it can often be incorrect or misleading. It’s important to verify food entries to make certain what you’re adding to your food diary is accurate.

CRON-O-Meter

CRON-O-Meter is similar to MyFitnessPal, with a large database of foods, the ability to track nutrition, and the option to keep a daily log of your food intake. A little more net carb friendly, CRON-O-Meter is often preferred by keto dieters because net carb tracking is much easier.

There is a free version of CRON-O-Meter in both app and web browser versions. Additionally, users can purchase the ad-free app and maintain a gold membership for added features.

Carb Manager

Developed for low-carb dieters specifically, Carb Manager has many of the same features as the other apps – including the ability to input macros, upload recipes, scan barcodes, and track each meal. Conveniently, Carb Manager also automatically calculates net carbs by subtracting fiber from total carbs. Daily macros can be tracked and monitored using a pie chart and bar graph, making it simple to stay on track.

Staying on top of the foods you eat can provide a wealth of benefits and skyrocket your success when eating a keto diet. Not only does it promote accountability for food choices and portion sizes, it can help sniff out places where you might be holding yourself back and are unaware of it. Have a favorite tracking app?
