Start your morning right, every day with Detox Tea!
Sweet, tart and detoxifying, this “tea” refreshes you and provides some awesome benefits! The main ingredient is organic apple cider vinegar (ACV) and it packs a punch! It aids in weight loss, helps control blood sugar, boosts energy, improves immunity, metabolism, digestion, acne, hair, breath and more! Read about more benefits and sources here! It really is a super-food to keep in your pantry.
Many people attribute the benefits of apple cider vinegar to the “mother” which is a pretty creepy name for the strand-like chains of protein enzyme molecules floating around making the liquid look cloudy. This is found in ACV that is unfiltered and is actually part of what makes the vinegar acidic. No studies have proven that the mother is the part of the AV that is so beneficial, so whether you have a bottle with or without the “mother” fear not, you will only gain from giving this ingredient a try.

The most common way of using ACV is by ingesting it. You can also try rinsing your hair with it after shampooing, using it as a toner on your face before bed, swish it around in your mouth to whiten teeth, rub onto skin to heal a mild sunburn, the possibilities are endless! It is definitely an ingredient to have on hand for all kinds of scenarios.
Today, however, we’re drinking it! As this apple cider vinegar drink is pretty potent, we’re diluting it with warm water and some other beneficial ingredients. Sure, you could just drink apple cider vinegar straight out of the bottle but that would be a very harsh way to start your day. It is much more enjoyable to make our morning detox tea.
To make our detox tea, simply warm up some water and mix in all your ingredients together in your mug. We recommend using a microwave-safe mug in case you need to reheat your drink later on. Make sure to use fresh lemon juice (squeeze it yourself!) as it has the most health benefits and is much more potent when fresh. Adding cayenne is optional, but it’s what gives this drink it’s extra immunity-boosting powers. If you add just a dash, you won’t taste it much as the apple cider vinegar and lemon juice will overpower the spiciness of the cayenne. Give it a try as it really is an essential part of the detox tea!
This drink is sweet, tart and warming. I find it energizes and wakes me up at the first sip!
I’ve even started skipping my morning coffee and opting for morning detox tea instead. Of course, our Bulletproof coffee is still a favorite, but a good balance of ketogenic and paleo mornings does us good!

If I don’t have lemons on hand can i use lemon juice?
Fresh lemons are definitely better. Store bought lemon juice can be filled with extra sugars and chemicals. Occasionally, though, lemon juice is alright.
Hi does this drink have to be in the morning ?
You can enjoy this any time of the day!
Tried this before work this morning… really helped with appitite which is good, only complaint was the bitter taste. Not sure which part though. Other problem was the cinnamon stayed on top and then also a lot was on bottom for the last drink. I didn’t see the suggestion on the cinnamon you listed before this morning, so I will try that tomorrow. Any other thoughts on the bitterness taste? ~ Think it will work great though.
Hi Vicky,
Can I drink this several times a day?
Would there be any harm if I drank it before bed?
You can drink this several times a day. I’d be careful in the beginning though, your body may be sensitive to the apple cider vinegar. It’s acidic, so start slow.
Does it have to be apple cider vinager or can it be white vinager
It should really be apple cider vinegar. Not only does it taste better, but it’s got a ton of benefits.
Hello. Does it have to be red pepper? Can I use black pepper instead? Thanks.
Hi! You can omit the cayenne entirely! Add black pepper if you enjoy the taste 🙂
Is the honey just for sweetness? I was preparing to make this tomorrow but spaced on the honey while out doing errands.
Honey is for sweetness plus the health benefits it provides. If you forgot it, you should be fine but the tea may not taste as good. Try adding some Truvia!
Can I add green tea to this?
I don’t see why not.. as long as it’s the bagged kind, not matcha powder. That may taste a bit weird!
I thought this was going to taste bad, but it’s actually pretty good! I have a lot of health issues and I also am trying to lose 50lbs. I hope this helps aide me in my journey!!! ☺
Thank you Vicky! Tried it that way this morning and it did help alot!
I love Cinnamon but having trouble getting it to dissolve even with warm water. Any suggestions??
Try putting the cinnamon in first and pouring just a bit of water and breaking it up into a paste. Then pour the rest of the water in, stirring constantly. The cinnamon won’t dissolve in any case, it’ll always stay as little granules. But I think it will spread out a bit better this way.
Does it need to be warm water? Can it be cool or cold?
Warm water helps the ingredients dissolve a bit better and may be gentler on your digestive system when you wake up. Otherwise, cool water will work too!
Can i use the regular apple cider or do it have to organic Braggs?
Any apple cider vinegar will work, although Bragg’s is preferred.
I’ve been drinking this mixture for about a month now and it’s suppressing my appetite. Not really a bad thing, but then I tend to not want to eat breakfast. Does this need to be dank first thing in e morning? Or can I have it after my breakfast? Thanks for your help. (Ps sometimes I drink it in the afternoon when I get cravings or feel the urge to snack since it suppresses my appetite I can make it to dinner.)
It’s normal to experience suppressed appetite thanks to the apple cider vinegar. If you prefer, you can drink it after breakfast though!
What could I use to replace the cinnamon? I hate the stuff but I want to try this.
You don’t have to use the cinnamon! It provides lots of benefits but if you really don’t like it, you could try nutmeg.
For how long do you drink this tea?
For as long as you like! I try to replace my morning coffee with this tea as much as I can.
Could I mix a big batch of this for the week and keep it in the fridge? Maybe not add the water, just add that the day I use it? Or take it straight as a concentrate?
Hey Jennifer! I wouldn’t suggest drinking it as a concentrate. Though if you really want to, maybe reduce the apple cider vinegar amount to 1 tbsp at a time. I would suggest making each batch fresh since refrigerating honey could ruin its flavor and the lemon juice may spoil. If you do try it, let us know how it goes and we’ll add a note to the recipe saying that it works in weekly batches!
