Low Carb Dinner, Done Right!
I’ve fallen in love with making videos. If a picture says a thousand words, then a video screams them! It’s lots of fun recording the process behind making a dish and it’s really helpful to those looking for direction. If you have any questions about how to make a recipe, you can simply watch the whole video! It’s one thing to include step-by-step photos but those tend to take the backseat to the final images of the dish in its full glory.
The process behind the finished product is just as, if not more, important. Making a great food video really is an art. Shooting videos reminds us that the preparation can be beautiful too and hopefully that beauty shines through in all of our video guides.
So, for our next video, we decided to make a cult classic, Crack Slaw! This is a totally addictive slaw type mix that everyone is going crazy over. There are lots of versions of it circulating around the internet and they all have an Asian spin to them and ours does as well. With just a bag of coleslaw mix, some ground beef and a few perfectly blended seasonings, you will be enjoying a complete meal in a bowl in no time!

Of course, one of the best things about our easy crack slaw is that the entire dish is very low carb. This is super important to anyone who is following a keto diet and wants to try out the crack slaw internet sensation. Our version of the slaw turned out at about 4 net carbs per serving. Not too shabby!
Our nutritional facts were based on 88/12% ground beef, so if your beef is slightly different, your macros may be a little different as well. The same is true with some of the other ingredients like the soy sauce and the bagged coleslaw mix. If you opt to use coconut aminos in place of soy sauce (a very common substitute especially for those looking to cut back on sodium consumption), the macros may increase slightly. The type of bagged slaw you use may also alter your nutritional info a little bit. However, regardless of fat content of the meat or the amount f sodium in your soy sauce, the net carbs should stay the same!
Once you check out our video, we know you are going to want to start cooking this delicious full meal in a bowl. It is easy, flavorful and a total dinner win. It’s hard to go wrong with crack slaw! It really does live up to its name and is quite addictive…

Here’s how we make it!
Servings: servings |
- 2 cloves garlic
- 2 tbsp sesame seed oil
- 1 lb ground beef (we used 88% lean)
- 10 oz. cole slaw salad mix
- 1 tbsp sriracha
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp vinegar
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp pink Himalayan sea salt
- 1 tsp sesame seeds
- 1 stalk green onion
- Start by heating your sesame seed oil in a large wok and crushing 2 garlic cloves into it. Cook until fragrant.
- Add in a pound of ground beef and break up with a wooden spoon.
- Once your ground beef is browned, about 5-10 minutes, add in your cole slaw salad mix and toss to combine.
- Add in sriracha, soy sauce and vinegar and toss. Let this cook for about 5 minutes for the cole slaw mix to wilt.
- Season with salt, pepper and sesame seeds. Serve with a sprinkle of green onion and enjoy!

This is definitely a new one to be put in rotation. Made a couple changes out of preference and necessity but all in all this is a great recipe. I never thought of using a bag of coleslaw in a stir fry. Will probably add onions with the garlic next time and some bean sprouts at the end. Thanks so much!
Bean sprouts are great! We love them in Vietnamese dishes like pho!
Made this tonight and it was great!
I am excited to try this dish this week. I want to add spice but not sriracha sauce. What do you think would work better….tabasco or like taco hot sauce? I am also thinking about doing lettuce wraps or egg roll wrappers.
Lettuce wraps sound great! Tabasco should work fine, but you can also omit spiciness entirely if you like.
The slaw was great! We had it for dinner tonight. My husband had it on corn tortillas. I had mine in a romaine lettuce leaf and also tried some on a few tortilla chips. I had to cut myself off!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just made this wonderful meal! We added chopped onions with the garlic. We love garlic so we had more than your recipe called for. This was so yummy and just the right amount of heat from the siracha. Super fast to make. Kids loved it. Will definitely make again.
Really glad you enjoyed! It truly is super quick and versatile – you can customize it with your choice of ingredients and it only gets better 🙂
Awesome awesome awesome!! Loved it… made it with ground turkey and it was very tasty. Will make this again… probably next week.
Looks awesome and love the video! Will be making this week. One question, do you drain the far after cooking the ground beef?
Definitely not! The fat adds flavor to the entire dish and helps cook the cabbage nicely.
I made this a couple weeks ago and I lIked the suggestion about adding frozen peas. So tonight I’m making it with frozen peas and then doing the mix in lettuce wraps!
Sounds awesome! Share a pic with us 🙂
Love it. But trying to figure out what the serving size is so can calculate the exact calories. Is it a cup or more that equals 350 calories. Thanks Lorie
The serving size is a 1/4th of the entire recipe. We made a batch for four people and calculated the macros that way.
Hope that helps!
I saw this video yesterday, headed straight out to Sprouts and purchased the ingredients and made this last night. I enjoyed it and could also see that as a lettuce wrap! Will definitely make it again! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very tasty….didn’t have enough hamburger so I added some sausage…very good !!!
This was fantastic! To make it more Weight Watchers friendly I used 93% lean ground beef and since I don’t like sesame seeds I left those off. It’s only 6 Smart Points a serving!
What wok is that? It looks great.
Thanks! We got it from Bed Bath & Beyond. The brand is “Infuse”, hope that helps!
Loved this! Real similar to the mixture I put in my egg rolls! May add chicken in this also next time.
Is it spicy? Other wise will try it.
It’s not necessary to add sriracha (we just like it spicy). Throw in some sour cream instead!
Just made it! Wow!!! Only thing I added was some frozen peas.
Awesome! Glad you liked it 🙂
Loved it and would love more low carb recipes! Thanks so much!
Just made this. I thought it was very good! Will remake. Liked the recipe as is!
